Are you the type of person who likes to do extra, engaging activities to supplement youR school classes. Do you want to keep busy during the summer with fun, learning activities? If so check out the events listed below. They may be just right for YOU!
Students are Invited to Apply for Summer Residential Governor’s School
Applications are now available for the Summer Residential Governor’s School. Students must be in either 10th or 11th grade, and be gifted or an advanced student in one of the following areas: World Language, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Humanities, Math, Science, Technology, Agriculture, Medicine, Space or Marine Science.
Each Summer Residential Governor’s School focuses on one special area of interest. Students live on a college or university campus for up to four weeks each summer. During this time, students are involved in classroom and laboratory work, field studies, research, individual and group projects and performances, and seminars with noted scholars, visiting artists, and other professionals. In the three mentorships, students are selected to work side-by-side with research scientists, physicians, and a variety of other professionals. A director and student-life staff provide supervision of students 24 hours a day, throughout the program.

Do you know of any high school girls curious about working for an electric utility?
Girl Power is the perfect program for high school girls who are interested or curious about working on a line crew, in a substation, with advanced metering technology or as a fiber broadband technician. Instructors will lead students through various activities in the classroom and outdoors at the state-of-the-art training facility located in Palmyra, VA.
Participants will learn about safety on the job, including how to safely climb a utility pole and operate a bucket truck. Students will also individually meet with industry human resources professionals to review their resumes and discuss interviewing best practices. Other representatives will be available to answer questions about career paths and workplace culture.
